Collaborations
YMCA OF GREATER HOUSTON
This program was specially designed, developed, and implemented for the YMCA, grounded in theater arts training and performance and ties to selected criteria in the 40 Developmental Assets and the Center for Educator Development in Fine Arts (CEDFA) Framework. The curriculum covers two distinct groups.
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT (18 MONTHS TO KINDERGARTEN)
Studies have shown that a window of opportunity exists for the acquisition of musical skills just as it does for language. The earlier the better!
Music classes encourage:
- Musical and creative development
- Language development
- Physical coordination
- Cooperative play
- Socialization skills
- Listening skills
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM (KINDERGARTEN TO FIFTH GRADE)
We can allow the children to create and write songs and scenes. This creative process fulfills many of their CEDFA Framework requirements. Plus it will give the children more ownership of their project, which, of course, will promote high self-esteem and positive attitudes. The self-created content will not just involve writing parts of the show, but the children can also design the sets, costumes, props, programs, etc. etc. etc. This will also fulfill many of the CEDFA Frameworks in regard to Art Curriculum and 40 Developmental Assets in regards to creative activities, youth programs, etc
KIPP ACADEMY
This collaboration also has two components. One focuses on the Kindergarten through fourth grade and is designed to propel KIPP Academy into becoming the center of excellence in musical theatre training. This will be accomplished by designing a theatrical production that reinforces the value being taught by the academy that school year. Through script, song, and dance the children will be taught components of that value.
