One of my favorite perks as resident blogger for Theatre Under The Stars is getting a sneak peek at several behind-the-scenes events that take place on a regular basis at TUTS.  Just recently, I got a glimpse into the audition process for the upcoming production of Annie.  It blew me away watching the talented young ladies, all hoping for a chance to appear as an orphan, sing their little hearts out to “Maybe” and the signature song “Tomorrow”.  I’ve always believed Houston is never lacking in the talent department and these auditions just proved my theory!

For many of us, Annie was our right of passage into the world of musical theatre…myself included! Had it not been for a production of Annie, I probably would have taken a different path in life and never known TUTS or much of the arts.  Whenever TUTS does a production of Annie, I have always made it a priority to attend at least one performance during the run of the show.  I love seeing the budding talent of future Broadway stars and the chance to relive the magic of discovering musical theatre once again.

In homage to one of my favorite late night talk show host, I have created Thea’s Top Ten Reasons You Should See Annie list. Hopefully this will convince you to come back to TUTS to relive a childhood favorite!

10. There is dog on stage and who doesn’t love that in LIVE theatre!

9.  It’s fun to imagine what it would be like to have a billionaire as a Daddy.

8.  Annie and the orphans are students from the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre.

7.  We need a break from our “hard knock life” and TUTS is the best place to escape!

6.  Miss Hannigan – no explanation needed.

5.  With excited anticipation about seeing Annie we will allow you to belt out “Tomorrow”, but only in the shower.

4.  “You’re Never Fully Dressed” is the best jingle ever written.

3.  It’s fun to compare the stage version of Annie to the film.

2.  There are several fun character names like Rooster, Lily St. Regis, Pepper, Duffy, etc.

1.  It may spark a new love of musical theatre for a loved one in your life.

Can you think of a fun reason to see Annie? Do you have an Annie experience you would like to share with me and my readers?

Next week enjoy the second edition of the new TUTS Insider video blog!

Until next time,
Thea

My brother would sing Annie songs in the shower to annoy me when we were growing up. I smile now when I hear "Tomorrow" since he is no longer with us....... Looking forward to the show and the other TUTS productions, thank you!

Great music and theatre with a message of hope...My choir & musical theatre group is performing "Annie Jr." on May 24 & 25, 2012. I'm bringing 100 students and parents to see the show! Thanks TUTS Board and Natalie in the group sells dept.!

Annie was my first TUTS production at the Music Hall! I hope to have better seats this time around. Last time was in the balcony - this time it's the Orchestra! Can't wait to see the HSMT students at work! They are just so good.
