“Come on-a my house my house, I'm gonna give you candy
Come on-a my house, my house, I'm gonna give a you
Apple a plum and apricot-a too eh”
     - Rosemary Clooney

We may not have passed out apples, plums or apricots, but the Theatre District Open House '12 was a HUGE success! I packed up the kids and my hubby and set them loose on the tour of the other venues, while I donned my turquoise blue “From Camelot to Spamalot” t-shirt that all TUTS volunteers and staff wore for the day. It was truly a sea of blue inside and outside of the Hobby Center! You wouldn’t believe the number of requests I received as to where others could purchase one. To be truthful, I felt pretty special in my “volunteers- only” shirt.

First-timers and Open House veterans all came out to enjoy the three TUTS 12-13 season preview shows, take advantage of the subscription offers, tour the Hobby Center, and apparently buy out the entire stock of TUTS’ Encore boutique! Encore was packed with shoppers snatching up the bargains and sales that were only good during Open House from the minute it opened until after the event was over! A lot of people had never been to Encore, but assured the store manager, Suzanne Tidwell, they’d be back. Holiday merch has already arrived; it’s a great place for musical theatre lovers, like me.

I had a blast watching the kids at the Humphrey’s School of Musical Theatre’s costume corner play dress-up. This was exactly the type of event I loved as a kid. What was your favorite part of the Open House? How did you think the preview shows went? What were some of your favorite things at other venues? How can we help TUTS make it even better next year? Share your thoughts!

Until next time,
Thea Star
