Student Matinee FAQ

How do I reserve and pay for tickets?

Please fill out the reservation form at the bottom of this page and hit SUBMIT. Once your reservation request is received a TUTS Coordinator will contact you within 48 hours to confirm availability and to make arrangements for payment.

How do I know if the content is suitable for my students?

Information regarding content/subject matter is available online for every student matinee show. We encourage you to read through this information in order to make an informed decision before making your reservation.

What is the chaperone policy?

The policy is one chaperone (parent or teacher) per every ten students.

If we are unable to use all of our tickets, will we be issued a refund?

Your tickets, once paid in full, are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Are Student Matinees available to the public?

TUTS student matinees are not available to the public. These matinees are for public, private and home schools only.

Are seats reserved?

Seats are assigned based on size of the school group and if they require accessible accommodations; kind of like a puzzle.

What if a member of my group requires an accessible accommodation?

Accessible seating is available on every level of the theater. For specific questions or requests please contact Courtney Wilson at courtney@tuts.com or (713)558-8826. You may also include this information in your reservation form. Whenever an accessible need arises let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

What do I need to know about the Hobby Center's security and bag check?

There will be at least 2 police officers and 1 EMT at every student matinee. New for this season The Hobby Center has implemented bag check at each entrance.
From The Hobby Center: All bags entering the venue are subject to inspection. Wand and walk-through metal detectors will also be in use. Prohibited Items: No weapon or items construed as weapons (including pocket knives and mace), oversized bags, luggage and backpacks may not be permitted. No outside food or beverages allowed.

How are restroom breaks handled?

Your group should stay together to get seated first and then at your discretion, before the performance starts, you may send students to the restroom. Restrooms will also be open during intermission and please note this will be your last chance as the restrooms will be closed after the performance.

What time should we arrive at the theatre?

This season all student matinees start at 10:00 AM. Schools may start arriving at 8:45 AM.

Do you allow cameras inside?

Yes, we allow cameras inside, but you may only take pictures before and after the performance. No photos or videotaping are allowed during the performance.

Do you allow food and beverage in the theatre?

No food or beverages are allowed in either the theatre or the lobby. If your group is planning a picnic after the performance, your bus will have to circle back to drop lunches off.
