Student Matinee FAQ
Information regarding content/subject matter is available online for every student matinee show. We encourage you to read through this information in order to make an informed decision before making your reservation.
The policy is one chaperone (parent or teacher) per every ten students.
Please fill out the reservation form at the bottom of this page and hit SUBMIT. Once your reservation request is received a TUTS Coordinator will contact you within 24 hours to confirm availability and to make arrangements for payment. While it is preferable to take full payment upfront we understand this may not always be possible. We will work with groups on a case by case basis to find suitable payment options.
Your tickets, once paid in full, are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.
TUTS student matinees are not available to the public. These matinees are for public, private and home schools only.
Seats are assigned by the size of the school and where we are able to fit everyone in; kind of like a puzzle. We do consider requests based on special needs such as a need for accessible seating. Please note that starting this year all Student Matinees will be ticketed.
For specific requests or more information please contact Elizabeth England at firstname.lastname@example.org or (713)558-8825. In her absence please contact Courtney Wilson at email@example.com or (713)558-8826. We are eager to work with you in providing the best possible care when it comes to accessible needs and requests.
A limited amount of accessible seating is available on every level. Please make sure you write out what your specific need is or please call the Group Sales department directly to discuss your request.
We ask that your group stay together to get seated first and then at your discretion, before the performance starts, you may send students out to the restroom. We understand that with no formal intermission people in your group may need to get up during the show. We allow this as long as it is done as quietly as possible.
For performances starting at 9:30am, buses should arrive no earlier than 8:45am. For performances starting at 11:30am, buses should arrive no earlier than 10:45am. For performances starting at 10:00am, buses should arrive no earlier than 9:00am.
Yes, we allow cameras inside, but you may only take pictures before and after the performance. No photos or videotaping are allowed during the performance.
No food or beverages are allowed in either the theatre or the lobby. If your group is planning a picnic after the performance, your bus will have to circle back to drop lunches off.
If you are looking for picnic options, Tranquility Park (across the street from The Hobby Center) and Sam Houston Park (South of The Hobby Center by two blocks) are popular destinations for school groups. Restaurants within walking distance are The Downtown Aquarium and the Hard Rock Café. Spaghetti Warehouse on Commerce Street is also a popular destination for school groups, but it is not within walking distance.
No food or beverages are allowed on The Hobby Center campus. Lunches need to stay on your bus. If your group is having a picnic lunch, the bus will have to come back after the performance to drop off lunches.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE RESERVING MORE THAN ONE PERFORMANCE YOU WILL NEED TO FILL THE FORM OUT FOR EACH SHOW
