Humphreys School Summer Camps

Humphreys School of Musical Theatre summer camps are now on sale – see below for our exciting offerings! 

All camps take place in the Theatre Under The Stars studios at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts (800 Bagby Street / Houston, TX 77002). Register before April 18 to take advantage of our early registration prices.

J.R. MUSICAL THEATRE CAMPS: AGES 4-7
Tuition per student/per session: $230 (early registration) / $250 (registration after April 18)

JUNE 20-24: BROADWAY BOUND

Monday – Friday; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There’s no business, like show business! Get ready for the big lights and big city by diving into Broadways big dance numbers from legendary award-winning musicals like Newsies, Annie Get Your Gun, Seussical, and more! Throughout the week, our Jr campers will experience a fun, safe, and exciting learning environment focused on building confidence, connection, and are introduced to core musical theater fundamentals through singing, acting, and dancing, culminating in a showcase performance at the end of the week!

JUNE 20-24: CAMP PIXAR


Monday – Friday; 1-5 p.m.

Cruise on down Route 66 as we make stops at our most favorite Pixar movies like Brave, Cars, Toy Story and more. Throughout the week, our Jr campers will experience a fun, safe, and exciting learning environment focused on building confidence, connection, and are introduced to core musical theater fundamentals through singing, acting, and dancing, culminating in a showcase performance at the end of the week!

AUGUST 1-5: DISNEY ADVENTURE

Monday – Friday; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.


Join us for an epic Disney Adventure as journey to Mexico, Polynesian Islands, Africa, and more through big dance numbers from Disney favorites like Moana, Disney’s The Lion King, Coco, and Madagascar! Throughout the week, our Jr campers will experience a fun, safe, and exciting learning environment focused on building confidence, connection, and are introduced to core musical theater fundamentals through singing, acting, and dancing, culminating in a showcase performance at the end of the week!

AUGUST 1-5: HEROES & VILLAINS

Monday – Friday; 1-5 p.m.


Explore the adventures and heroic deeds of our favorite heroes and most devious villains. Be the hero as we help our favorite characters conquer the high seas, save some unfortunate souls, and help Hercules go from Zero to Hero in a week! Featuring songs from Moana, The Little Mermaid, and Hercules, our Jr campers will participate in week-long classes in singing, acting, and dancing, culmination in one final epic showcase!

MUSICAL THEATRE CAMPS: AGES 6-12

Tuition per student/per session $355 (early regsitration)/$375 (registration after April 18)

JUNE 6-10: DISNEY ADVENTURE

JUNE 13-17: HEROES & VILLAINS

Monday – Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JULY 11-15: BROADWAY BOUND

Monday – Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Throughout the week, campers will take various classes in singing, acting, and dancing to focus on the triple threat standard of musical theater. The week will end with a culminating showcase performance of a lifetime!

JULY 25-29: CAMP PIXAR

Monday – Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cruise on down Route 66 as we make stops at our most favorite Pixar movies like Brave, Cars, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Soul and more. Our campers will sing, act, and dance our way through popular numbers like “Route 66,” “You’ve Got A Friend in Me,” “Touch the Sky,” and more! Throughout the week, our campers will experience a fun, safe, and exciting learning environment focused on building confidence, stage presence, vocal strength, and performance technique through a variety of classes each day, culminating in a showcase performance at the end of the week!

BRING IT ON, MUSICAL THEATER ACADEMY PRODUCTION: AGES 12-19
Tuition: $699 (early registration) / $715 (registration after April 18)

Join the cast of our 2022 Summer Musical Theatre Production of Bring it On: The Musical as we give students the chance to put on a professional-quality musical theatre production with full lighting, set design, sound design, and costumes in less than 80 hours of rehearsal and tech. Be a part of this epic cast showcasing the top talent throughout the Houston area.

This production will rehearse and perform at The Hobby Center (800 Bagby St / Houston, TX 77002). More information will be available in March – Register now to secure your spot!

AUDITION PREPARATORY COURSES

AGES 8-12

JUNE 6, 13, 20: AUDITION PREP – MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE

Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

Dance is integral to musical theatre and is often part of the show audition/callback process. This class will provide preparation skills and techniques to learn combinations quickly in the audition/callback room for a musical theatre dance style production. This class will not only focus on basic dance skills you will most likely see in a dance call but will also provide students with essential tips on how to showcase themselves successfully through professionalism, presentation, storytelling technique, and more. Combinations will be adapted as needed for ages 8-12 and 13-18.

JUNE 6, 13, 20: AUDITION PREP – MUSICAL THEATRE VOICE

Time: 7-8:30 p.m.

The vocal cut is often the first step to any audition. This prep class is designed to help sharpen vocal repertoire and acting through song audition skills. It is a perfect class for those wanting to build their repertoire for an upcoming audition. Students will select a vocal song they want to focus on, identify a specific cut, and sharpen their acting through song delivery employing a deeper understanding of the content/story to nail their audition or callback. This class will provide feedback on tone, pitch, posture, breath support, projection, diction, and diaphragmatic control. Through group discussions, best practices in preparation and technique, and mock auditions on the final class day, the goal is for each student to leave the class with prepared vocal cut and the confidence to perform it well in upcoming auditions. Class will be adapted as needed for ages 8-12 and 13-18.

JULY 11, 18, 25: AUDITION PREP – MONOLOGUES

Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

This prep class is designed to help sharpen monologue repertoire and theatre audition skills. It is a perfect class for those who are wanting to build their repertoire for an upcoming audition. Students will select material, identify a specific cut, and sharpen their delivery through a deeper understanding of the content to nail it in the audition or callback room. Through group discussions, best practices in preparation and technique, and mock auditions on the final class day, the goal is for each student to leave the class with prepared monologue and the confidence to do it well in upcoming auditions. Curriculum/content will be adapted as needed for ages 8-12 and 13-18.

JULY 11, 18, 25: AUDITION PREP – COLD READINGS

Time: 7-8:30 p.m.

Imagine that you are at an audition, and the director hands you a script that you have never read before. Within a minute, you somehow must deliver your character’s line brilliantly. That is a cold reading. This class will help give you the tools and steps to build confidence when in the callback room. Students will work through various material to develop techniques and go-to methods that will help them excel in a cold reading environment, in order to nail the role. Curriculum/content will be adapted as needed for ages 8-12 and 13-18.
