Everyone was defying gravity at the ACT@TUTS (Apprentice Conservatory Training at Theatre Under The Stars) production of The Stephen Schwartz Project. Inspired by the legendary songwriting career of Stephen Schwartz, the musical revue is a spectacular compilation of unforgettable songs by one of broadways most successful composers and lyricists of all time.
Schwartz, a multi-award winner and renowned composer-lyricist, is best known for his most recent blockbuster musical, Wicked. Previously, Schwartz won two Grammy awards for his musical Godspell and has also worked on the scores of Disney’s animated films The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Pocahontas for which he received two Academy Awards and a Grammy Award.
Schwartz was in attendance for the last day of the performance run. Excitement began when the talented cast and crew met with Schwartz following the matinee. Also attending the performance was writer Michael J. Bobbitt, who worked with Houston composer John L. Cornelius II. TUTS’ Associate Artistic Director Roy Hamlin served as director, while Shay Rodgers provided choreography.
