HSMT Academy Auditions are transitioning to an online video submission format.
Performance Requirements: Students must prepare a video audition consisting of an age appropriate 1 minute monologue, 16 bar cut from a musical theatre selection, and dance reel highlighting techniques in ballet, tap, and a jazz combination. You will be required to perform a “slate” at the top of your video. For more information on slating, see the “Audition Tips” section below. Please bear in mind that HSMT does not expect perfection from our students in their videos. The HSMT Academy has multiple levels of technique instruction and we simply wish to see the current ability level of each student. Please remember to take your time and have fun, there is no reason to be nervous.
Submission Requirements: Students will also be asked to submit an updated copy of their headshot, resume, as well as an audition form (linked below). Headshots, resumes, and audition forms should be submitted in PDF format all directly through Formstack (linked below). Your video audition (vocal, acting, and dance) should be combined into a single video file and uploaded into Google Classroom (linked below).
Audition Tips: HSMT has compiled some resources to help students compile their videos and documents to put their best foot forward during their audition. Please click the button below to view.
Attire: For the vocal/acting portion of your audition please wear nice clothing (dress, skirt/blouse, slacks, button-down). For the dance portion, please wear dance specific clothing if available (dancewear, dance footwear, tights/leotards). If dancewear is not available, form-fitting attire and sneakers will suffice.
Vocal/Acting Instructions: If available, you may film yourself with live piano accompaniment; however, a karaoke or instrumental track (in the proper key) will be sufficient. Your video should be filmed including your full body.
Dance Reel Instructions: Please watch the videos linked below and film yourself executing the techniques shown to the best of your ability. When filming the jazz combination, make sure to use the same music, which can be found via the music tracks link below. If you wish, you may construct your own tap board for filming the tap portion of your audition video. A link to a video on doing so can be found in the video list. This is not mandatory.
Video Upload Instructions: In order to upload your video you will need to have a google account. Once you have clicked the Video Upload button, sign into google account, click back to classes, and then join the class using this code 3lcr423. Once you’ve entered the classroom, then you will be able to add your video for upload. You may use a file or a link for video upload.
All video submissions, headshots, resumes, and audition forms should be submitted via Formstack and Google Classroom by July 8, 2020 by 11:59pm. Late submissions will not be accepted.
