The River offers Saturday classes in Jazz Dance, Intro to Piano, Mixed Media, Improv & Acting, Spoken Word and Photography throughout the Spring.
Jazz Dance: This class focuses on stretching, isolating of different parts of the body, learning to move in across the floor progressions, learning choreography combinations, and expressing personal style.
Intro to Piano: This class introduces piano through key recognition, learning basic technique, learning functional piano skills, and learning simple repertoire pieces.
Mixed Media: This class explores assemblage through the alteration of photos, drawing, painting, found objects, composition, collage, and more.
Improv & Acting: In this class, students develop improvisation skills by participating in exercises and games that emphasize play, spontaneity, imagination, and confidence.
Spoken Word: In partnership with Writers in Schools, self-expression is encouraged via personal storytelling, creative writing, and the performance process.
Photography: In partnership with Houston Center for Photography, learn to communicate a message, learn how a camera works, and explore your environment.
Tap Class: This Wednesday evening class focuses on students developing coordination, sense of time, and basic tap dancing vocabulary all while sharing in the joy of dance.

Tuition: $150 per Class
Non-refundable Registration Fee: $25 per student
Insufficient Funds Fee: $25
Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Unless otherwise noted, all classes are offered at the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center located at 1475 West Gray St.
Although there are no restrictions based on diagnosis or mobility, River staff reserves the right to withdraw a student from the program if they pose a safety risk to themselves or others; if the student is unwilling to stay in the classroom the majority of class time, and/or if the student frequently disrupts classroom activities. The River has a zero-tolerance policy for violence.
The River Performing and Visual Arts Center does not provide refunds partial or full once enrolled in a class with out approval of The River staff. Should a conflict occur before a scheduled class begins, students may transfer into a later session.
Nurse and Medical Information
A licensed nurse is on duty. Please provide detailed medical information on the Registration Form along with this allergy form if applicable. If medication needs to be dispensed, this permission form must be completed.
Confirmation of Registration
You will be emailed a packet that includes a confirmation of registration and information about dress and other important program facts.
Assistance is available through the Binstock Financial Fund and is based on financial need.

Complete the Registration Form above and Submit the Registration Fee. This must be submitted in order to be considered.
Funds are limited and awards are made for partial or full tuition based on the students’ need and the availability of funds. Awards are not transferable to other students or other semesters.
All recipients are required to complete an end of semester evaluation and submit a thank you note to the Binstock Financial Aid Fund.
